Why exfoliation is important?

A trick to maintaining healthy skin is to incorporate exfoliation.

Your skin undergoes desquamation, which is a naturally occurring process where skin cells are created, sloughed away and replaced by new skin cells. It is also known as the skin cell turnover cycle.

In this cycle, your skin travels from the deepest layer of the epidermis to the surface. As they reach the surface, the cells flatten and lose their nucleus. By the time they arrive at the stratum corneum, they are regarded as dead. Dead skin cells are shed frequently as new skin cells are produced, continuing the same cycle.

When your desquamation process does not happen as it should, your dead skin cells aren’t shed properly and they may clog your pores, which will then lead to breakouts and other issues. This is where exfoliation comes in!

Exfoliation can assist in your natural desquamation process. When you incorporate it in your routine, you avoid having dead skin cells that can clog your pores so you experience less breakouts.

Long-term use of exfoliation may also encourage collagen production as you shock your skin and create mild trauma which stimulates collagen synthesis.

Over time, you’ll end up having brighter, smoother and youthful skin from exfoliation.
